Finding out that you are infertile and cannot have children can be a life changing moment. It is very important to some people to have children and to feel that their family is complete and hence, they can be devastated and be left feeling inferior. Cause for Infertility: Male versus Female Infertility When a couple first find out that they are infertile, the blame often goes to the woman first. It is perhaps, a woman's greatest fear that they cannot bear children. Female infertility are caused by many factors including genetics, poor diet, smoking, lack of exercise, a hormone imbalance and many other reasons. The lifestyle choices such as diet and smoking can be changed to reverse infertility. Problems such as genetics, however, cannot be changed although specific problem can be redressed by infertility treatments. So, one should not despair or jump to conclusions without consulting a doctor because it may well be the male who is the cause for infertility. Male infertility can be caused by genetics, a low sperm count, irregular sperm and certain diseases. Smoking, drug use and other lifestyle characteristics are also factors affecting male infertility as well. If a couple cannot conceive, the male should be tested along with the female to determine who the cause for infertility is. The man will have to a sperm sample for testing by the doctor. A blood and urine sample for testing may also necessary as well to determine if there are any other causes for infertility. If a couple is determined to have one or more cause for infertility, the treatment can be tailored accordingly. To overcome the cause for infertility, in-vitro fertilization and other treatment techniques are available. In the worst case, there is still the option of adoption. If you are affected, consult a doctor to see if there are infertility treatments and alternatives available. If not, there is always the choice of adoption. Sometimes, providing an orphaned boy or girl the joy of a family can be just as rewarding as that of having a child naturally. After all, there are many children out there who do not have parents and you may just be the right parents for one of them.
